Many patients in need of a medical marijuana recommendation don’t know what to expect from a medical marijuana evaluation. First, you should know that you Medical Practitioner will either be a New York State Licensed Physician or Certified Nurse Practitioner who have additionally registered with New York State's Department of Health to issue Medical Marijuana Certifications.
Your visit is considered part of your confidential medical record. During your medical marijuana evaluation, the Medical Practitioner will perform an exam of your condition by reviewing your medical history, current health condition, and any diagnosis documentation you may have. The Practitioner will also determine whether you are likely to receive therapeutic or palliative benefit from medical marijuana.
A visit with your medical marijuana practitioner will include the following:
A good-faith examination by a New York Licensed Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) who has been approved by the NYS DoH to certify patients for the legal use of medical marijuana.
The Practitioner will write you a medical marijuana recommendation and NOT a medical marijuana prescription. Since marijuana is classified as a Schedule I drug, marijuana prescriptions are illegal.
Your medical cannabis recommendation will be valid only for up to one year.
Your doctor will NOT be affiliated with a marijuana distributor and by law can NOT recommend a marijuana dispensary.
